X-Firmen: Mannheim ’75 (2011)

mannheim ’75 was conceived as a 10-minute performance within the “X apartments” project as part of the 16th Annual International Days of Schiller in Mannheim in 2011.

Mannheim, 1975: The National Garden Show is just around the corner. Exotic plants are arriving in Mannheim from all over the world, the city is building a monorail especially for the event, and the whole town is dizzy with (exotic) plant fever. The whole town? No, because there’s one lonely idealist fighting against the commodification of the environment, against exoticism in the greenhouse, and for the native plants that people ignore.

In the basement party room of his house, he forges a plan for the greatest act of eco-terrorism Mannheim has ever seen. But someone is onto him: The young police officer Erika goes undercover to investigate and try to keep the flower terrorist from launching a violent attack. Between LSD trips, German pop hits, herbal schnapps, and flower fertilizer, players decide whose side they’re on and how the story unfolds.
